
Kauzlarich's Golden Goal Gives Liberty 1-0 Victory

Madison Kauzlarich played the role of hero, Sunday afternoon at Osborne Stadium. The senior midfielder scored a golden goal to put the Liberty women's soccer team over VCU, 1-0.
Thanks to Kauzlarich's first goal of the season, Liberty moves to 2-4-1 overall. The Rams fall to 1-6-0 in 2015.
Jennifer Knoebel and Jaime Bouffard each garnered assists on the goal.
Goalkeeper Holly Van Noord picks up her third shutout of the season and the 26th of her career, posting 10 saves during the contest. Emma Kruse also played the entire 95:28 in goal for the Rams, finishing with five saves.
VCU outshot Liberty in the contest, 18-12, and held a 5-3 advantage on corner kicks.
The Rams applied pressure in the first period, outshooting the Lady Flames, 12-6, during the stanza. The Liberty defense held firm, with Van Noord leading the effort by making six saves during the opening 45 minutes. The netminder made two key stops in 41st minute to keep the contest scoreless at halftime.
The pace slowed in the second period. Once again, VCU held the shot advantage, outshooting Liberty, 6-4. Van Noord thwarted four of the Rams five attempts during the half.
Sophomore defender Sami Santos came up big for the Lady Flames in the 63rd minute, clearing a shot off the goal line by Julia Suarez, preventing a goal.
Later in the 84th minute, freshman forward Devon Jones nearly came up with the game-winning goal in her Liberty debut, lobbing a shot toward the VCU net. However, Kruse snatched the ball out of the air before it could sail over her head, ultimately sending the contest into overtime.
In the extra period, Bouffard passed the ball to Knoebel, who flicked it into the center of the 18-yard box for Kauzlarich. The midfielder blasted a shot, which sailed high into the back of the VCU net, giving the Lady Flames the 1-0 victory.
Liberty heads to Washington, D.C. to take on George Washington, Thursday. Game time in the nation's capital is slated for 3 p.m.
