
Vorster Sisters Spark Lady Flames to 3-1 Home Win over Gardner-Webb

Sisters Jade and Sirena Vorster combined to score 29 kills at a .556 pace, sparking Liberty to a 3-1 (25-16, 25-15, 18-25, 25-19) win over Gardner-Webb, Friday at the Vines Center.
The Lady Flames improve to 6-8, including 2-0 in Big South play, while also extending their home winning streak to five matches. Gardner-Webb falls to 4-13, with an 0-2 conference mark.
For the match, Liberty sent down 59 kills while hitting .255. Gardner-Webb registered 40 kills at a .124 pace. The Lady Flames led, 75-58 in digs and 7-4 in aces, while the Runnin' Bulldogs held a 7-6 edge in blocks.
Liberty's Jade Vorster scored a career-high 19 kills, hitting .571, while also adding a match-high four block assists. Vorster eclipsed the 400-block mark for her career on Friday. Sirena Vorster hit .529 with 10 kills, while Caroline Douglas and Hannah Weidner added nine kills each. Anna Willey recorded a double-double while setting new career highs in both assists (48) and digs (13). Margaret Latchford collected 20 digs, while Allie Reynolds totaled 13 digs and Haley Jeffcoat tallied 11 digs.
Tyra Montour led the Runnin' Bulldogs with 11 kills at a .435 pace. Anna Pashkova's 20 digs tied Latchford for the match high. Jene Lee posted four blocks, while Justine Bowers dished out a team-high 21 assists.
After trailing set one, 5-2, Liberty used a 15-2 rally to a take commanding 17-7 lead. The Lady Flames finished off set one, 25-16. Sirena Vorster scored four kills for the hosts, who hit .226 as a team, while Gardner-Webb hit just -.026.
The Runnin' Bulldogs tied set two, 14-14, with a Kaelyn Dyson-Sydney Marshall block. Jade Vorster then scored four kills during a 7-0 Liberty run, as the Lady Flames outscored Gardner-Webb, 11-1, down the stretch on the way to a 25-15 victory.
Liberty scored 19 kills at a .308 clip during the second session, while Gardner-Webb managed six kills at .069. Jade Vorster sent down five kills in set two.
Gardner-Webb responded during the third frame, racing to a 6-1 lead. The Lady Flames chipped away at the deficit throughout the set, but the Runnin' Bulldogs pulled away to extend the match with a 25-18 win. Gardner-Webb outhit Liberty, .170-.087 during set three.
The Lady Flames broke open a close fourth set, turning an 11-11 tie into an 18-11 lead with a seven-point run that featured three kills and a block by Jade Vorster. The visitors drew to within five, 22-17, on a Montour kill, before Liberty closed the door, 25-19.
Jade Vorster hit a perfect 8-for-8 during set four, helping the Lady Flames hit .432 as a team. Gardner-Webb responded by hitting .281 with 13 kills.
Liberty hosts UNC Asheville tomorrow at the Vines Center, with first serve scheduled for 2 p.m. The Lady Flames and Bulldogs will both enter the match with identical 2-0 Big South records.
