Tennessee Tech put a runner in scoring position in the bottom of the first. Designated player Melody Christian led off with a bunt single for the Golden Eagles, and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Lacie Coquorille. But two pop outs stranded the runner, sending the game into the second inning.
Bridgett Woods recorded Liberty's first hit of the game in the top of the third when she led off with a double the right field line. She moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by Cassie Hendrix, but Tennessee Tech pitcher came up with two big strikeouts to keep the game scoreless.
Liberty took a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth. Cleanup hitter Kelly Strickland led off with a double to left center, and pinch runner Meredith Basiden crossed the plate when J'nae Jefferson singled to center field.
The Lady Flames didn't hold the lead for long, as Callie Schmidt and Holly Thomas hit solo homers to take a 2-1 advantage in the bottom of the fourth.
But Liberty answered with three runs on three hits in the top of the fifth. Hendrix led off with a double to left, and Howard drew a walk. Then, Jenny Law singled down the left field line, scoring Hendrix to tie it up.
With one out, Strickland doubled to center, bringing in two more runs to give the Lady Flames a 4-2 lead.
The Lady Flames extended their advantage to 6-2 in the top of the sixth, scoring two more runs on two hits and a costly Golden Eagles error. Jefferson led off with a single through the left side, and after an out, she moved to third when Hendrix busted her second double of the game, a shot to right center. With two outs, Jenny Law walked to load the bases. Bensinger then hit a grounder to the third baseman, who tossed it to first, where Whitney Cummings misplayed the catch and two unearned runs crossed the plate.
The Golden Eagles couldn't muster a comeback, as relief pitcher Tiffani Smith struck out four of the final six batters to seal the 6-2 victory.
Liberty was led by Strickland, who batted 2-for-2 with two RBIs, and Hendrix, who was 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Jefferson was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored.
The Golden Eagles were led by Schmidt and Thomas, who were both 1-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored.
Smith earned the win in the circle, improving to 4-2 on the year. She gave up only one hit and struck out seven batters in 3.2 innings of work. Thomas (5-5) took the loss, giving up six hits and striking out seven in five complete innings.
With the win, Liberty improves to 8-4 on the year, while Tennessee Tech drops to 8-10.
