With the victory, the Lady Flames raise their season record to 33-20 and 8-2 in Big South play. The loss drops Coastal Carolina to 19-31 on the year and 6-7 in league action.
In the opening contest, the Lady Flames jumped out to a quick three-run lead, thanks to three hits during their first at bat. Dawn Jeffs led off the inning by drawing a four-pitch walk, followed by Shannon McKain fighting off an inside pitch and hitting a triple into the right-field corner, plating Jeffs.
Jessica Moore kept things going with a double to the gap in right-center field. After Ashley Williams singled to right center, Sarah Swor capped off the three-run frame by laying down a suicide squeeze bunt just up the first base line, plating a charging Moore from third and staking Liberty to an early 3-0 lead.
The score remained the same until the bottom of the third where Moore started the inning with a double off the top of the fence in center field. After moving to third on a Williams' single to left, Moore scored on Danyelle Gerdts' wild pitch, pushing Liberty's lead to four runs, 4-0.
The Lady Flames left the rest of the game in the hands of Lowe as the senior tossed her second no-hitter of the season and the 11th in school history to up her record to 15-6 overall and 6-1 against Big South competition. Earlier this year, Lowe recorded her first career no-hitter in a 2-0 win over Norfolk State at home on March 28.
Lowe fanned 13 batters today, including strikeouts for the first six outs of the game, to up her record to 15-6 on the year and 6-1 against league foes. The 13 Ks matched a career high when she also struck out 13 batters against West Virginia Tech on April 4, 2005.
Danyelle Gerdts suffered the loss, falling to 6-10 on the season, as the senior allowed four runs on seven hits, walking one and striking out five in six innings of work.
The top four hitters in Liberty's line-up tallied all seven of the Lady Flames' hits, led by Moore who was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and a pair of doubles. Williams followed with her sixth multiple-hit game against conference opponents as she was 2-for-3.
McKain added a 1-for-3 game with a run scored and a RBI. Jeffs extended her hitting streak to nine-straight games by going 1-for-2 with a run scored.
