Maura Schimp assumed her role as Liberty Field Hockey Assistant Coach in June 2024.
In her first season with Liberty, the Lady Flames posted their seventh straight year of 10 or more wins, going 10-8 overall and 4-3 in BIG EAST play. Schimp specializes in working with the Liberty goalkeepers as well as with the defensive system as a whole. Lady Flames netminder Michaela Skinner was honored as the NFHCA Division I Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 18, 2024 and earned BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week honors a day earlier for her efforts in a 1-0 shutout of No. 4 Duke. Skinner and Liberty posted six shutouts during the 2024 season.
Schimp came to Liberty after spending the 2023-24 academic year as an assistant coach at Lafayette. Prior to that, she served as the assistant coach for Saint Louis for four seasons (2019-22). Schimp and Lafayette posted a 12-7 overall record and 5-1 Patriot League mark in her lone season with the Leopards.
“I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to join Liberty Field Hockey and work alongside Coach Parsley-Blocker, Coach Good and the special team of student-athletes,” Schimp said. “The program’s unique commitment to high-level hockey, transformational team culture and glorifying God is exceptional, and I can’t wait to be a part of the legacy of LUFH!”
Schimp and Lafayette led the conference with five All-Patriot League selections, highlighted by NFHCA All-America second team honoree Lineke Spaans and Patriot League Rookie of the Year Stella Malinowski.
Schimp played collegiate field hockey at American, graduating in Dec. 2018. She graduated as one of the top goalkeepers in Eagles program history as well as Patriot League history, closing her career with 214 saves, a 1.63 goals-against-average and a .702 save percentage. Schimp was tabbed 2018 Patriot League Field Hockey Goalkeeper of the Year and was tabbed the league’s Goalkeeper of the Week on eight occasions. She helped the Eagles to the Patriot League title in 2016 and a win in the NCAA Field Hockey Championship that season.
A native of New Cumberland, Pa., Schimp (formerly Jacobs) earned a bachelor’s degree in public relations and strategic communications from American.
