
Liberty Earns 3-1 Senior Night Win Over High Point

Liberty took a 2-0 lead over High Point, before holding off the Panthers for a 3-1 (25-19, 25-23, 20-25, 25-18) Senior Night win in front of a season-high 1,062 fans at the Vines Center, Friday.
With the win, the Lady Flames improve to 13-11 on the season, including 8-3 in Big South play. Liberty snapped High Point's (19-8, 9-2) eight-match winning streak, while drawing to within one match of the Panthers for second place in the Big South standings.
For the match, Liberty outhit High Point, .200-.186. Both teams tied with six blocks and five service aces, while the Panthers led, 65-61, in digs.
The Lady Flames honored their four senior volleyball student-athletes, Caroline Douglas, Haley Jeffcoat, Allie Reynolds and Jade Vorster, along with student manager Ryan Francis, with a pre-match Senior Night ceremony.
Douglas scored a match-high 19 kills, while Vorster recorded 11 kills at a .450 pace to go with three blocks. Anna Willey dished out a match-high 41 assists, while Margaret Latchford totaled 21 digs and two aces. Hannah Weidner sent down eight kills, while Reynolds served up two aces.
High Point's Megan Kennedy registered 12 kills and 13 digs, while Abby Broadstreet and Camryn Freiberg scored 11 and 10 kills, respectively. Gabi Mirand dished out 40 assists and collected nine digs. Annemarie Chin collected 18 digs, while sister Wavie Chin totaled 10 digs.
Set one featured 12 ties and six lead changes. The Lady Flames took a late 23-18 lead, after staging a 5-0 rally that included three Douglas kills. Kennedy ended the rally with a kill, but a High Point error gave Liberty set point, 24-19. A Douglas kill then sealed the set.
Liberty held a .119-.103 edge in attack percentage during the first set, with Douglas scoring six kills.
High Point jumped out to an 18-13, set-two advantage. The Lady Flames then reeled off six straight points, with Susan Babcock serving five points in a row. Following six rally points, Sirena Vorster and Douglas scored back-to-back kills for a 24-21 lead. High Point scored twice, before Haley Jeffcoat clinched the set, 25-23, with a kill.
During set two, Liberty outhit High Point, .263-.211, as Douglas scored five kills.
The Panthers led, 17-10, midway through the third session. The Lady Flames then staged an 8-2 run that included two aces by Reynolds. High Point scored the next four points, before pulling away for a 25-20 victory.
High Point hit .355 during set three, getting five kills each from Kennedy and Freiberg, while Liberty attacked at a .148 clip.
The guests drew to within two, 14-12, in the fourth set following a kill by Molly Livingston. The Lady Flames put the match away, outscoring the Panthers, 11-6 down the stretch to win, 25-18.
The Lady Flames outhit the Panthers, .273-.108 in the final session, as Douglas sent down six kills.
Liberty hosts Campbell, tomorrow at 2 p.m. at the Vines Center, in the team's final home match of the season.
