
Barone’s 3-Run 9th-Inning Home Run Pushes Flames Past Aggies 9-7

After falling behind 7-3 in the sixth inning, Liberty scored six unanswered runs to storm back for the victory. The Flames scored three runs in the seventh inning on two-out singles by first baseman Jaxon Sorenson and Barone to cut their deficit to 7-6.
In the top of the ninth, right fielder Riley DeCandido led off the inning with a single and moved into scoring position on an Aggie throwing error on a fielder's choice ground ball by third baseman Jordan Jaffee. After both runners were moved into scoring position with a sacrifice bunt by Sorenson, Barone followed by belting a 1-0 pitch over the left field wall to put Liberty in front 9-6.
Right-hander Cooper Harrington pitched a scoreless home half of the ninth to seal the Flames' victory.
Liberty reliever Tyler August entered the contest with one out in the sixth and held New Mexico State to two hits over 2 2/3 scoreless innings, allowing the Flames to rally for the win.
Barone had two hits and four RBI in the contest. His home run was his team-leading 10th of the season.
Sorenson also collected two hits and three RBI, while DeCandido added two hits, an RBI and scored three runs in the game for the Liberty.
With the victory, Liberty takes the series with one game remaining tomorrow. The Flames, who have won five straight games, up their record to 17-6 in CUSA play and 34-13 overall. The Aggies drop to 8-15 in conference and 19-26 overall.
