Turning Point
- Missouri State took advantage of an error in both the fourth and sixth innings, scoring one unearned run in both innings to take a 2-0 lead into the seventh.
- Liberty loaded the bases with two outs in the top of the seventh, on a hit batter and two walks. However, Missouri State reliever Paityn Engemann came on in relief of starter Emily Koranda, getting Brynn McManus on a grounder to third to close out the shutout.
- Liberty outhit Missouri State 6-5 for the game, with the Lady Flames committing two errors. The visitors left nine runners on base, compared to six stranded by the hosts.
- Emily Koranda (9-8) earned the win, tossing 6 2/3 innings of six-hit softball, walking one, hitting three and striking out one. Paityn Engemann earned her second save of the year, retiring the only batter she faced in the seventh.
- Gabby Mike (2-8) drew the loss, allowing two runs (both unearned) on five hits, striking out a career-high seven batters.
- Alexia Perales went 2-for-3 with a double and one RBI for the Bears, while Riley Baber and Sofia King also doubled.
- Brynn McManus batted 2-for-4 for the Lady Flames, while Savannah Jessee, Dani Lee and Alexia Carrasquillo had one hit each. Paige Doerr went 1-for-1 and was hit twice.
- Today was the first meeting between Liberty and Missouri State in softball. Missouri State is the only first-time opponent on Liberty's schedule this season.
- Liberty had won each of its last nine Conference USA away games prior to today, dating to last season.
- Gabby Mike posted three strikeouts in the first inning, the second time this season that she has pitched a three-strikeout inning. She also struck out three batters during the sixth inning on Tuesday against North Carolina.
- Lee extended her hitting streak to six games.
- Prior to striking out seven batters today, Mike's single-game career high for strikeouts was six, set March 15 at Middle Tennessee.
The Lady Flames and Bears will conclude this weekend's series tomorrow with a doubleheader. Game one will begin at 3 p.m. ET (2 p.m. CT).
