Dallas Baptist Rallies in 8th to Edge Liberty 7-6
4/18/2026 10:16:00 PM | Baseball
With Liberty leading 6-3, Dallas Baptist struck for four runs off Flames' closer Cooper Harrington in the home half of the eighth to take the lead.
After the Patriots loaded the bases with a leadoff single and two walks, right fielder Ryan Martin grounded out to cut Liberty's advantage to 6-4. Third baseman Chayton Krauss followed by belting his 11th home run of the season over the left field to give DBU a 7-6 lead.
The Flames moved a runner into scoring position in the ninth inning with one out, but Patriot closer Athan Kroll was able to retire the next two batters to seal the comeback.
The rally wiped out Liberty starting pitcher Jaxon Lucas' effort, limiting DBU to three runs on five hits over a season-high six innings. The right-hander struck out a season-high seven and did not walk a batter. He retired the first six batters he faced to open the game and finished his outing by retiring the last seven he faced.
The Flames took advantage of two Patriot miscues and several walks to score two runs in each of the fourth and fifth innings to take a 4-3 advantage. Liberty extended its lead to 6-3 on center fielder Josh Campos' two-run home run, his eighth of the season. The center fielder had two hits in the game.
The setback halts Liberty's seven-game road win streak. The Flames fall to 12-5 in conference and 27-11 overall. DBU moves to 12-5 in CUSA play and 23-16.
