
Liberty Pulls Away Late for 7-2 Victory at FIU

The Lady Flames improve to 21-22 overall, including 14-5 in Conference USA play. Meanwhile the Panthers fall to 28-15, 10-9 in conference games. FIU had won five out of its last six CUSA contests entering tonight.

Turning Point
- Liberty led 3-2 in the bottom of the sixth. FIU got runners on second and third with two out, but Camden Anders preserved the lead with an inning-ending popout.
- The Lady Flames added four insurance runs in the seventh. After two quick outs, Ella Fox doubled and went to third on a wild pitch. Brynn McManus then drew a walk. A double-steal play sent Fox home. Following a walk to Savannah Jessee, Alexia Carrasquillo jumped on the first pitch she saw for a three-run homer.
- FIU loaded the bases with one out in the top of the seventh, but Anders got the next two batters to fly out to Paige Doerr in center, sealing the 7-2 victory.
- Both teams recorded five hits for the game, with four out of Liberty's five hits going for extra bases. The Panthers left 10 runners on base, while the Lady Flames stranded four.
- Camden Anders (11-4) earned the win, allowing two runs (one earned) on five hits, walking five and striking out four. Anders is 8-1 in CUSA games this season.
- J'Dah Girigorie (7-6) drew the loss, yielding three runs on three hits, walking three and fanning one in four innings before giving way to Kennedy Byrd.
- Alexia Carrasquillo went 1-for-4 with a homer, her 10th of the season, and three RBI, while Maci Strickland batted 1-for-3 with a homer, one RBI and two runs scored. Paige Doerr hit 1-for-3 with a triple and two RBI, while Ella Fox went 1-for-3 with a double and one run scored. Savanah Whatley went 1-for-3.
- Leah Clark went 1-for-3 and drove in a run for FIU.
- Liberty leads FIU 6-1 in the all-time softball series, including 4-0 at Felsberg Field.
- The Lady Flames are 5-2 in CUSA series openers this year.
- Carrasquillo is the 16th player in program history with a 10-homer season. Liberty has had at least one double-digit homer player in each of the last 10 seasons, beginning in 2017.
The Lady Flames and Panthers continue this weekend's series, tomorrow at 4 p.m. at Felsberg Field.
