
Men’s Tennis Dominates Weekend with Consecutive 7-0 Sweeps

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Liberty men's tennis team (7-7) showcased impressive performances over the weekend at the Liberty Tennis Complex, defeating Georgia State (3-5) on Friday and William and Mary (5-5) on Sunday, both by 7-0 scores. No Flame lost a single match in 18 total individual contests.
The wins were a part of a joint home tennis weekend with the Liberty women's tennis team playing simultaneous matches. The Flames enjoyed playing in front of a passionate home crowd in its first outdoor matches in Lynchburg this season.
#59 Liberty 7, Georgia State 0
Against Georgia State, Liberty clinched the doubles point with victories at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. At No. 1 doubles, Benjamin Sparks and Guy Vorwerk defeated Gabriele Datei and Aryan Jit Singh 6-4. Chase Robinson and Siwanat Auytayakul secured the point for Liberty with a 6-3 win over Sota Minami and Gustav Andersson on court two. The No. 3 doubles match featuring Carl Roothman and Ernst Gouws against Arthur Attrill and Aleksandar Andrin went unfinished with the Flames' duo leading 5-4.
In singles play, Roothman captured a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Cem Atlamis at No. 2 singles, followed by Gouws' 6-1, 6-2 win over Minami on court six. Sparks secured the match-clinching fourth point with a straight-sets win, 6-4, 6-4, against Attrill at No. 3 singles. Robinson secured another point for Liberty with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Andrin at No. 4 singles, while Auytayakul battled through a tough three-set match to defeat Datei, 4-6, 6-2, 1-0(10-1) at No. 1 singles. Vorwerk closed out the sweep with a 2-6, 6-1, 6-4 win over Andersson at No. 5 singles.

Battling through pain, Arraez stumbled in the first set but showed grit by fighting back in the second set against Gur Trakhtenberg. Forcing a full third set, Arraez built up a 5-2 lead but was unable to hold as his foe battled for three straight games to even the set at 5-5. Undeterred, the junior completed the sweep with a hard-fought 3-6, 6-3, 7-5 triumph.
