
No. 63 Flames Calm the Waters with a 5-2 Triumph Over the Green Wave

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Liberty (8-7) secured its third straight victory on Friday evening with a 5-2 final over Tulane (4-7) at home. The Flames battled cold and windy conditions to ultimately triumph on their home court.
Liberty secured the doubles points with clutch triumphs on courts two and three. Tulane dominated on court one as Daniel Phillips and Lance Nisbet handled Rodrigo Santiago Arraez and Guy Vorwerk 6-0. Liberty evened the round in the No. 2 singles match, where the reigning Conference USA Doubles Pair of the Week, Siwanat Auytayakul and Chase Robinson, closed out Hady El Kordy and Alec Gaudin with four consecutive games to seal a 6-2 triumph.
Tied at 1-1, Carl Roothman and Benjamin Sparks won three straight games on court three to earn the doubles point with a 6-4 victory over Piotr Andrzejewski and AJ Mercer. The pair are now 2-0 playing alongside each other.
Tulane evened the match with an impressive outing in the No. 1 singles match as Phillips topped Arraez 6-4, 6-0. The Flames drew a 2-1 lead with Sparks securing a 6-3, 6-3 triumph over Andrzejewski in the No. 4 match. The Green Wave drew another match on court three with Roothman falling to Gaudin 6-3, 6-3.
Vorwerk inched Liberty closer on court six with a 7-6 (4), 6-3 tally over Steven Rice. The Flames secured the match-clinching fourth point in the No. 5 singles match. Chase Robinson secured the first set before surrendering the second set against Andres Delgadillo. The Flame earned a 5-0 third-set advantage to lead to a 6-4, 1-6, 6-3 triumph.
Auytayakul put the finishing touches on the win with a comeback 5-7, 6-3, 6-4 victory in the No. 2 singles match.
