Liberty sophomore right-side hitter Paige Overcash has been named Conference USA Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week for the third week in a row.
A native of Ashe County, N.C., Overcash earns her third career conference player of the week honor, with all three coming weeks of this season. She is the first Conference USA volleyball player to be named CUSA Offensive Player of the Week three weeks in a row since Rice's Nicole Lennon received the honor each of the first five weeks of the 2019 season. Overcash is the first player in program history with three straight conference player of the week awards.
Overcash made an assault on the record books this weekend at the Tribe Invitational, averaging 5.17 kills per set at a .408 clip while adding 1.42 digs and 0.67 blocks per set. She was named to the All-Tournament Team, helping Liberty go 3-0 and claim the Tribe Invitational title.
On Friday against Norfolk State, Overcash scored a match-high 15 kills at a .333 pace, helping Liberty sweep Norfolk State, 3-0. Â
During Saturday's match against previously-unbeaten ECU, Overcash set a new program 25-point rally-scoring record with 30 kills (.426) to go along with 10 digs for her first career double-double. With Liberty trailing 14-12 in the fifth, Overcash scored three straight kills, giving the Lady Flames match point. Her 30 kills are the most by any Lady Flame since 2001.
Overcash finished the weekend by scoring a match-high 17 kills (.455) during a 3-1 win over the host William & Mary Tribe.
For the season, Overcash leads all CUSA players in hitting percentage (.422) while ranking second in kills per set (3.91).Â
The Lady Flames (8-1) will contest their first home match of the season, hosting Radford tonight at 6 p.m. inside Liberty Arena.
