LYNCHBURG, Va. – Liberty defender Lauren Littleton has been selected as the Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week after the opening week of the 2025 season. Littleton helped lead the Lady Flames to a 1-0-1 week on the road against reigning conference champions, topping East Carolina (American) 3-1 and drawing 2-2 at James Madison (Sun Belt).
Littleton was selected as the 2025 CUSA Preseason Defensive Player of the Year in the 2025 CUSA Preseason Poll. The defender was selected as the Defensive Player of the Week twice last season. Liberty led all CUSA programs with five Defensive Player of the Week selections
The junior totaled 163 minutes of play, including a full 90-minute performance at JMU. She helped the Lady Flames' defense hold ECU scoreless in her time on the field. The Pirates' lone goal came via a penalty kick in the final minutes of the contest.
Despite allowing two goals at James Madison, the defender helped stymie a dangerous JMU attack, holding the Dukes scoreless in the second half to pave the way for an equalizing score.
Liberty looks ahead to increased challenges this season. The Lady Flames hit the road to face Charlotte (2-0) on Thursday at 4 p.m. Liberty welcomes No. 15 Virginia (1-0) to Osborne Stadium on Sunday for a 1 p.m. kickoff. Both games will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
