LYNCHBURG, Va. – Senior Paige Bachman tossed a six-hit shutout, as No. 25 Liberty blanked FIU 5-0 in game one, Friday at Kamphuis Field at Liberty Softball Stadium.
The CUSA regular-season champion Lady Flames improve to 42-11, 21-3 in CUSA play, while the Panthers fall to 29-20-1, 11-13-1 in conference games.
The Lady Flames were ranked No. 25 by Softball America this week.

Turning Point
- Liberty led 2-0 after four innings. The Lady Flames then put the game out of reach with a three-run fifth. Rachel Roupe's sacrifice fly made it 3-0, while Brynn McManus pushed the lead to 5-0 with a two-run double.
- That was all the offense Bachman needed, as she tossed a 1-2-3 seventh.
- FIU outhit Liberty 6-5 for the game. The Lady Flames committed one error. The guests left five runners on base, while the hosts stranded three.
- Bachman improved to 11-3 on the season with her sixth career shutout and second of 2025. She scattered six hits, walking two and striking out five.
- Kennedy Byrd (11-12) drew the loss, allowing five runs on three hits, walking five in four innings before Megan Kruger tossed two scoreless innings.
- Brynn McManus batted 1-for-3 with a double and two RBI, while Brooke Roberts and Savannah Jessee both hit solo homers. Paige Doerr and Rachel Craine both doubled, as all five of Liberty's hits went for extra bases.
- For FIU, Kally Meredith went 2-for-2 while Bailey Grossenbacher batted 2-for-3 with a double.
- The Lady Flames are now 3-1 all-time against FIU, with all four meetings coming since Liberty joined CUSA.
- The Lady Flames are now 22-3 at Liberty Softball Stadium this season.
- Liberty's 21 CUSA wins are the most by a Conference USA softball team since FAU went 22-2 in league play in 2016.
- Roupe is the fourth player in program history with 60 or more RBI in a single season, and her 60 RBI are the most by a Lady Flames since Amber Bishop-Riley's program-record 66 in 2017.
- Roupe's 60 RBI are the most by a CUSA softball player since Randee Crawford of UTSA had 64 RBI in 2015.
- Liberty continued the distance itself, pushing its single-season CUSA record to 33 sacrifice flies.
