GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Liberty's first two program records of the 2025 outdoor track & field season came in the team's first two events at the Florida Relays on Friday. All-American Paola Bueno pushed her own women's hammer record out to 212-8, and the women's 4 x 100 relay quartet of Indea Cartwright, Reese Webster, Mahogany Mobley and Akilah Lewis blazed to a program-record 44.61, qualifying for Saturday's final.
Women's Day 1 Recap
Bueno entered the day owning the women's hammer program record of 211-4, an effort which had earned her an 11th-place finish at the 2024 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Eugene, Ore.
The junior improved upon that mark twice on Friday during an impressive series which featured legal efforts of 208-7 in round one, 211-9 in round two, 208-8 in round four and 212-8 in round five. As a result, Bueno placed fourth in a deep field of competitors.
Contesting its first women's 4 x 100 relay of the season, the quartet of Cartwright, Webster, Mobley and Lewis blazed around the track in 44.61. That was good for a heat victory and a spot in Saturday's 4 x 100 final at 12:55 p.m.
The Lady Flames bettered the previous school record of 44.80 set by the team of Alexis Wilson, Ty'Asia Dansbury, Kimone Green and Cortney Dowling at the 2018 Big South Championship in High Point, N.C.
Anchor leg Lewis made a successful Liberty relay debut following a 2024 which saw her help Ole Miss claim the NCAA 4 x 100 relay title and race in the event for Trinidad and Tobago at the Paris Olympics. Lewis has now helped three different schools set program records in the 4 x 100 relay, also including Minnesota and Ole Miss.
Webster went on to win her heat of the women's 200 and finish ninth of 44 competitors overall. Her 23.14 clocking set a new outdoor personal best despite a slight headwind.
Mobley was not finished with relay duty. She served as the veteran member of the Lady Flames' 4 x 400 relay unit, which also featured sophomore Maddy Merritt, freshman Marianah Scott and freshman Shania Adderley. The youthful quartet finished 14th in the prelims in 3:41.68, climbing to No. 6 in program history with the Lady Flames' fastest time since 2019.
Addilae Watts finished ninth in her javelin season debut, as the program record holder stretched the tape to 155-2. Patasha Bryan followed in 19th place at 135-8, matching her personal best from the 2024 Florida Relays.
Men's Day 1 Recap
Kellen Kimes was Liberty's top men's performer of the day, adding more than eight feet to his personal best in the men's hammer. The sophomore's top effort measured 216-3 for fourth place in the competition.
The Flames' 4 x 400 relay grouping of Simon Lamparelli, Revell Webster, Elijah Sherard and Jacob Torres followed in the Lady Flames' footsteps with an impressive clocking of their own. Liberty's 3:10.32 effort marked the Flames' fastest time since 2019 and placed 15th in the prelims.
Eddy Vu, Troy McKnight, Webster and Omari Lewis had earlier posted a 40.26 for 17th place in the men's 4 x 100 relay prelims.
Torres warmed up for his relay with a strong 53.15 effort in the men's 400 hurdles. He was beaten to the finish line by teammate Josh Blalock, who joined the event's sub-53.00 club for the first time at 52.90.
Ethan Mylin continued his comeback in the men's javelin, reaching a season-best 191-10 for 14th place.
