Making his NCAA national meet debut, the native of Ludington, Mich., reached 199-0 on his first attempt. That proved to be Kimes' lone legal mark of the afternoon and left him in 24th place overall.
Kimes became the first Liberty men's hammer thrower ever to compete at the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships as a sophomore. His successful season also featured a CUSA runner-up finish and an improvement from 208-0 to 219-5 from his freshman to his sophomore campaign.
Kimes gave the Flames a men's hammer representative in Eugene for the second year in a row, following John Hicks' qualification in 2024.
