
Liberty Rides Out Green Wave for 5-2 Victory

NEW ORLEANS, La. – Liberty (8-12) takes home a victory in its final road game of the spring with a 5-2 triumph over Tulane (5-14) on Friday afternoon. Liberty earned the doubles point and clinched the match at 4-1 before finishing with the 5-2 final. The match was the first-ever meeting between the two programs.
The Flames took the majority of matches in a tight doubles round. Liberty took the doubles point on No. 1 and No. 3 doubles victories. All three courts finished with a 6-4 tally.
The two teams split first sets to open the singles round with Tulane gaining the edge in two tiebreak victories. The Green Wave secured the first singles match of the day with a 6-1, 6-2 triumph on court three.
The Flames strung together four consecutive singles victories to clinch the match win. Almeida earned a swift 6-2, 6-3 victory on court one followed by a 6-1, 6-4 triumph from Chase Robinson. Robinson was facing a 4-0 deficit after breezing through the first set. The redshirt sophomore buckled down and rattled off six consecutive games to steal the match in the second set.
Matija Samardzic clinched the match-winning fourth point with a 7-5, 6-3 triumph over AJ Mercer in the No. 6 singles match. After the match was clinched, play continued on courts two and four.
Arraez stormed back in the No. 4 singles match after dropping a narrow first set, topping his foe 6-7 (6), 6-0, 1-0 (10). The sophomore extends his winning streak to five singles matches.
Roothman concluded the day on court two, also battling back after falling in a first-set tiebreaker. The junior cruised in the second set to force a third-set super tiebreaker, but ultimately fell 7-6 (3), 3-6, 1-0 (6).
