Liberty Track Returns to Charlottesville for Virginia High Performance

LYNCHBURG, Va. – For the second week in a row, Liberty will compete at a track & field meet hosted by Virginia. This week's event is the Virginia High Performance, scheduled for Sunday at Lannigan Field in Charlottesville, Va.

Sunday should be a pleasant day for a track meet in Charlottesville, with sunny skies and a high in the mid-70s.
Streaks at Stake
Addilae Watts enters Sunday's women's javelin competition having won each of her last two outings (Dennis Craddock Coaches Classic and Pacific Coast Invitational). Watts will look to defend her title from the 2024 Virginia High Performance meet.
Omari Lewis is entered in both the men's 100 and 200 at Lannigan Field on Sunday, returning to a venue where the junior has found considerable success. Most recently, Lewis raced to the Virginia Challenge men's 200 crown in a season-best 20.76 last Saturday.
Lewis is now four-for-four in winning individual event titles at Lannigan Field during his career, also including a sweep of the 100 and 200 crowns at the 2024 Virginia Grand Prix and the 2024 Virginia Challenge 200 triumph.
Lewis' wind-legal 100 personal best (10.08) and overall 200 personal best (20.56) have both come at Lannigan Field.
Strength in Numbers
A program single-season record seven Lady Flames have dipped under 25 seconds for the 200 this season, including Reese Webster (23.14), Mahogany Mobley (24.19), Maddy Merritt (24.21), Iyana Sherard (24.32), Akilah Lewis (24.33), Marianah Scott (24.53) and Elle Bass (24.79). Lewis was the latest to do so, clocking 24.33 in her first 200 as a Lady Flame last Saturday at the Virginia Challenge.
All but Scott are slated to run the 200 on Sunday, while four more Lady Flames (Shania Adderley, Trinity Alexander, Joelle Patton and Amaryah White) will attempt to join the sub-25.00 club.

Meredith Engle currently ranks No. 21 nationally with her heptathlon score of 5,414.
