
Liberty Heads Into Final Round of Stroke Play With Lead at CUSA Championship

TEXARKANA, Ark. – The Flames were unable to replicate their stellar first day at the CUSA Men's Golf Championship on Tuesday, but Liberty will still enter the final round of stroke play at the top of the leaderboard.
Following an impressive 11-under par 277 during its first time around the Texarkana Country Club (par 72, 6,969 yards) on Monday, Liberty followed with a 5-over par 293 on Tuesday.
Despite the higher scores on Tuesday, Liberty still holds the lead heading into Wednesday's final round of stroke play with an overall 6-under par 570 (277-293).
The Flames hold a four-shot lead over three teams who are sitting with a 2-under par 574: MTSU (285-289), UTEP (290-284) and Sam Houston (291-283).
Following play on Wednesday, the top four teams from the stroke play portion of the championship will move on to two rounds of match play on Thursday to determine the 2025 CUSA Men's Golf Championship winner.
Liberty's Ike Joy moved himself to the top of the individual leaderboard after carding his second under-par score of the championship. The redshirt junior leads the 54-man field with an overall 5-under par 139 (68-71).
Joy holds a one-stroke lead over UTEP's Braden Smith (69-71), New Mexico State's Aidan Thomas (70-70), Kennesaw State's Claes Borregaard (72-68) and Sam Houston's Hugo Trommetter (74-66).
At the conclusion of the stroke play portion of the championship on Wednesday, Conference USA will award the overall individual winner with tournament medalist honors.
Liberty also has two other golfers who are inside the top 10 of the leaderboard. Andrew Gregory (73-70) and Michael Lugiano (70-73) are tied for 10th place with an overall 1-under par 143.
The Flames will return to the course on Wednesday morning for Round 3 of the CUSA Men's Golf Championship.
Liberty will be paired with golfers from MTSU and Sam Houston and will be sent off the No. 1 tee, starting at 8 a.m. CST/9 a.m. EST.
