
Flames in 4th Place after Day 1 of the Lewis Chitengwa Memorial

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Liberty had a strong showing during the first day of play at the 2025 Lewis Chitengwa Memorial, allowing the Flames to keep pace with the three nationally ranked teams in the field.
Following two trips around the Birdwood Golf Course (par 71, 7,116 yards), Liberty stands in fourth place with a 2-under par 566 (280-286).
Entering tomorrow's final regular season round of the year, Liberty only trails No. 11 Florida State (27-under par 541/267-274), No. 13 Virginia (11-under par 557/281-276) and No. 27 Northwestern (10-under par 558/278-280).
Tomorrow's final round will be Liberty's last before it looks to defend its Conference USA title at the 2025 Conference USA Men's Golf Championship, April 21-25, in Texarkana, Ark.
Florida State's Luke Clanton, the No. 3 ranked individual golfer in the country, leads the 72-man field with a 10-under par 132 (66-66).
A total of 28 players finished the first 36 holes of play in red figures, including three of Liberty's starting five golfers.
Josh Ryan is pacing the Flames as he is tied for 10th place with a 3-under par 139 (69-70). Ryan is tied with Clanton and FGCU's Nolan Harper for first in the field with 11 birdies.
Andrew Gregory is one shot behind Ryan and is tied for 16th place with a 2-under par 140 (69-71). Ike Joy is one shot behind Gregory and is tied for 21st place with a 1-under par 141 (69-72).
Liberty will be paired with golfers from Clemson and FGCU during tomorrow's final round. The three teams will head off the No. 1 tee, starting at 8:50 a.m.
