Lady Flames Fall at Louisiana Tech 4-2

RUSTON, La. – The Liberty women's tennis team (10-12, 4-2 CUSA) was taken down in a critical Conference USA match-up, 4-2 at Louisiana Tech (14-8, 4-0 CUSA) on Friday afternoon.
The Lady Flames were upended in the doubles round despite a tight contest on court one. The teams split courts one and three with 6-3 finals. In the No. 1 doubles matches, both teams needed to fight from behind, ultimately reaching a tiebreaker. The tiebreaker was reached on a controversial line call before the Bulldogs took the match 7-6 (0).
Louisiana Tech came out on fire, taking matches on courts four and one to take a commanding 3-0 lead. Liberty gained its first point of the match in the No. 5 singles match as Anika Lemus topped Nina Skoric 6-2, 6-4.
The Bulldogs secured the match-winning fourth point on court two with Zoie Epps battling Yu-Yun Chen to a 7-5, 7-5 tally. Shortly after the match was clinched, Liberty gained another point in the No. 6 singles match as Celina Joseph topped Alice Brook in three sets 1-6, 6-1, 6-4.
With both teams with one CUSA match remaining, the Bulldogs (4-0 CUSA) are in the driver's seat for the No. 2 seed at the CUSA Tennis Championships. Liberty serves as the host site for the event April May 16-19.
Louisiana takes the victory in the first-ever match-up between the programs.
