
Liberty’s Season Ends with 4-0 Loss to Washington

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Liberty women's tennis' (16-10) historic season came to an end in a 4-0 loss to Washington (20-5) in the first round of the 2026 NCAA Women's Tennis Championship. The regional match was played at the Boar's Head Sports Club in Charlotteville, Va.
Daniella O'Neill managed the best performance for the Lady Flames on Saturday, winning the first set at No. 1 singles, facing No. 53 Reece Carter.
Washington, the No. 22-ranked (ITA) squad, secured the doubles point with victories at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. Erika Matsuda and Karolina Kozakova defeated Yoanna Radulova and Maria Turchetto 6-0 at No. 1 doubles, while Alexia Jacobs and Marie Weissheim overcame Daniella O'Neill and Milana Tsulygina 6-1 at No. 2 doubles. The match at No. 3 doubles was unfinished, with the Huskies leading 5-0.
In singles, Washington extended its lead with a win at No. 5 singles as Marie Weissheim defeated Celina Joseph 6-0, 6-3. At No. 4 singles, Jermine Sherif added another point for the Huskies, winning 6-2, 6-2 over Milana Tsulygina. The match at No. 6 singles saw Karolina Kozakova clinch the dual match victory for Washington by defeating Candy Wai 6-2, 6-1.
Three matches were left unfinished. At No. 1 singles, Daniella O'Neill was leading 6-3, 3-3 against No. 53 Reece Carter before play was halted. Additionally, at No. 3 singles, Yoanna Radulova trailed Alexia Jacobs 6-4, 3-2 when the match was called. Maria Turchetto was down 6-1, 4-3 to No. 89 Erika Matsuda at No. 2 singles when play was stopped.
Liberty secured its first-ever conference title, claiming the Conference USA Championship two weeks ago. The team returns its full roster for the 2026-27 season, not losing any graduating athletes.
Washington advances to the second round to take on regional host, No. 7 Virginia on Sunday at 1 p.m.
