TAMPA, Fla. – Despite securing the doubles point and the first singles match, South Florida (4-9) came back with four consecutive singles courts to steal the 4-3 win over Liberty (5-9). The Lady Flames plan to respond with a neutral-site match against Gonzaga (7-4) on Tuesday.
The Lady Flames secured the doubles point with triumphs on courts three and two. The No. 3 pair of Celina Joseph earned a 6-2 triumph, their third consecutive win together.
Chen snagged a quick 6-3, 6-1 triumph on court three to push the match lead to 2-0. The Bulls stormed back with four straight singles victories to steal the match from the Lady Flames.
South Florida secured the match-winning fourth point in the No. 2 singles match with a 4-2 score. Liberty's Daniella O'Neill fought back to force a third set but was unable to secure a third-set tiebreaker, falling to Sienna Leeson 6-4, 2-6, 7-6 (3).
The match continued to play on with Celina Joseph batting on court six. The freshmen caught fire in the second set after falling in the first set 6-2. Joseph fought to win a second set tiebreaker and rolled in the third set for the 2-6, 7-6 (4), 6-2.
