
Lady Flames Swept 4-0 by No. 43 FIU in CUSA Championship Rematch

MIAMI, Fla. – The Lady Flames (8-11, 2-1 CUSA) were defeated in quick succession, 4-0 by No. 46 FIU (11-2, 1-0 CUSA) on the road Friday. Liberty opened the first of a pair of matches in consecutive days with a loss to the reigning CUSA champions. The Lady Flames take on New Mexico State (11-7, 1-1 CUSA) on Saturday at 11 a.m.
The Panthers earned the doubles point 2-1 with triumphs on courts two and three. Daniella O'Neill and Maria Turchetto were victorious 7-5 on court one against the conference rivals. Liberty's Yoanna Radulova and Anika Lemus entered a tiebreaker on court two, but fell 7-6 (2).
Yu-Yun Chen had her six-match singles winning streak snapped, falling 6-0, 6-1 in the No. 2 singles match. Radulova was bested on court one 6-2, 6-2 against No. 77 Ekaterina Khairutdinova. The Panthers secured the match-clinching fourth point from Katerina Mandelikova in the No. 4 singles match. Maria Turchetto fought back in the second set but fell 6-0, 6-4.
Three matches were left unfinished, including Lemus in the midst of a first-set tiebreaker at 6-6 (1-1).
No. 1 seed FIU bested No. 2 seed Liberty 4-1 in the CUSA Women's Tennis Championship on these same courts last season.
