LYNCHBURG, Va. – Liberty's No. 1 doubles pair of Daniella O'Neill and Maria Turchetto have been named the Conference USA Women's Tennis Doubles Pair of the Week, the conference announced Wednesday. The duo went 2-0 in CUSA matches, leading the Lady Flames to a 4-1 triumph over Middle Tennessee and a 4-0 sweep of UTEP.
The award is Liberty's first CUSA Player of the Week award of the season. The two were both named to the CUSA All-Freshman team last season. This season, they have made every appearance together in the No. 1 doubles slot.
The doubles pair dropped two total games over the weekend. On Friday, the two topped MTSU's Lena Peyer and Eloise Swarbrick 6-2. The duo continued to roll on Sunday ousting UTEP's Carlotta Mencaglia and V. Carreno Torres 6-0. Court one was the first doubles match to finish on both days.
O'Neill and Turchetto have collected a 15-13 record together this year and a 7-8 mark this spring. They currently hold a three-match win streak.
The pair has helped Liberty secure six of the past seven doubles points.
Liberty hits the road for a pair of matches in Miami, Fla. this weekend. Liberty battles reigning CUSA Champion, No. 66 FIU (9-2, 1-0 CUSA) and take on New Mexico State (11-7, 1-1 CUSA). The Lady Flames cross paths with the Panthers at 12 p.m. Friday and battle the Aggies in a neutral-site match on Saturday at 11 a.m. Both matches will be played at the PayGo Tennis Center.
