
Liberty Shows Out at Martha Thorn Invitational

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The Liberty Lady Flames tennis team finished play at the Martha Thorn Invitational, a five-team event hosted by West Virginia. The team collected an overall 13-14 record with an 8-10 singles mark and a 5-4 doubles record.
Liberty competed amongst a mix of competitors from West Virginia, Duquesne, Penn State and Virginia. The teams competed across three days, with one match each of singles and doubles.
Maria Turchetto, 2-1 in singles for the event, secured a victory in the Blue West singles bracket final, topping Duquesne's Sofia Perez 6-1, 6-1. The junior wrapped the weekend with an overall 4-2 record with a 2-1 mark in doubles with Yoanna Radulova.
Yoanna Radulova reached the Gold East bracket singles finals with a 2-0 start, but fell in her final singles match to Virginia's Katie Rolls 6-4, 6-0. Radulova finished the weekend with a 4-2 mark, with a 2-1 record with Turchetto in doubles
In her Liberty debut, Candy Wai produced the strongest overall outing by a Lady Flame with a 5-1 overall tally. The transfer from Tyler Junior College earned a 2-1 singles mark and a perfect 3-0 doubles record with partner Aranai Martinez. The junior began the weekend with a loss to West Virginia's Daniella Shved (6-2, 6-2), but bounced back stronger, not losing a match the rest of the weekend.

Liberty gets set for the ITA Atlantic Regional beginning on Oct. 16 in Blacksburg, Va. The six-day event is hosted by Virginia Tech, with all Lady Flames eligible to compete.

- Celina Joseph finished action with a 2-1 singles mark. She went 0-3 in doubles with partner Sadie Daavettila.
- Freshman Aranai Martinez was 0-3 in singles action, but held a perfect 3-0 doubles mark with Wai. Matinez leads all Lady Flames with a 5-1 doubles mark in the early fall season.
- Radulova paces the team with a 4-1 singles record, along with sporting a 3-1 doubles record.
