
Liberty Tops Jax State 5-2 to Complete Series Sweep

JACKSONVILLE, Ala. - Liberty continued its unbeaten start to conference play, topping Jacksonville State 5-2 to complete a series sweep, Sunday at Jana McGinnis Field.
The Lady Flames (27-6) improve to 8-0 in Conference USA play with their fourth straight win. Meanwhile, Jax State (20-12) falls to 4-5 in conference contests following its fifth consecutive loss.

Turning Point
- Liberty pushed its lead to 5-2 with a sixth-inning run. Alyssa Henault led off with a pinch-hit double and later scored on an RBI groundout.
- With two on and two out, Elena Escobar struck out Abbi Perkins to maintain the lead. Perkins had homered one inning earlier.
- Liberty outhit Jax State, 7-6, with the Gamecocks committing one error. The Lady Flames did not commit an error all weekend.
- Escobar (12-2) earned the win, allowing one run on four hits, walking one and fanning four in 3 2/3 relief innings. Liberty starter Danner Allen, making her first start since Feb. 26 against Virginia Tech, yielded one run on two hits, striking out three in 3 1/3 innings.
- Kat Carter (6-3) drew the loss, allowing four runs (three earned) on five hits, walking four and striking out three in six total innings pitched. Jordan Eslinger gave up one run in one relief inning.
- Brynn McManus went 2-for-3 with a double and three RBI, while Rachel Roupe batted 2-for-2 with a double and two runs scored.
- The Lady Flames lead the all-time series against Jax State, 7-1. Liberty has won each of the last seven meetings, including all six matchups since both teams joined Conference USA prior to the 2024 campaign.
- Liberty has won all 11 CUSA series since joining the conference, including six sweeps overall (three this season).
- Liberty was ranked No. 21 in both the Softball America and D1Softball Top 25 Polls this week.
- Jax State became the first CUSA team to homer off of Liberty this season. So far, Liberty has 15 hit homers in conference play, compared to one allowed.
- Escobar is now 5-0 in CUSA play this season, earning the win in five out of Liberty's eight conference games so far.
- Roupe is now tied with Amanda Maska (2002-04) for seventh in program history with 46 career doubles.
