Liberty Defeats Middle Tennessee 4-1 in Conference USA Opener

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Liberty (7-10, 1-0 CUSA) defeated Middle Tennessee (10-6, 0-1 CUSA), 4-1, in their its Conference USA contest of the season on Friday. The Lady Flames took the doubles point winning on courts one and two.
On court one, Daniella O'Neill and Maria Turchetto bested their opponents 6-2. Yu-Yun Chen and Celena Joseph defeated Cassidy Matatia and Ilaria Sposetti 6-3 on court three to clinch the point.
The Blue Raiders evened the match at 1-1 on court four with Cassidy Matatia overcoming Turchetto 6-1, 6-1. The Lady Flames surged quickly, gaining two points on courts six and two. Joseph won her match 6-3, 6-0 against Eloise Swarbrick. Chen triumphed over Lena Peyer 6-3, 6-2 to earn a commanding 3-1 lead.
O'Neill clinched the match-winning fourth point in the No. 3 singles match court, battling Sara Conde to a 6-4, 6-4 final. The matches on courts one and five were left unfinished.
Liberty remains unbeaten all-time in regular season CUSA match play. The team improves to 3-1 in series history against Middle Tennessee. The Lady Flames went 5-0 in conference play last spring, including a 4-0 win over the Blue Raiders.
