
Liberty Upended by Richmond 5-2

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Liberty was unable to crawl back from a 3-0 deficit, falling 5-2 to Richmond at home on Sunday afternoon.
Richmond picked up a doubles match, 6-3 on court three but the Lady Flames responded with a 6-3 triumph on court one. The No. 2 doubles pair of Yoanna Radulova and Anika Lemus faced a 5-2 deficit and cut the lead in half but were taken down 6-4.
The Spiders secured the first two singles points with triumphs on courts six and one to take a 3-0 match lead. Liberty's Yu-Yun Chen picked up a dominant 6-2, 6-1 victory on court three.
Richmond earned the match-winning fourth point in the No. 2 singles match as Andrea Campodonico topped Daniella O'Neill 7-6 (4), 6-2.
Two matches remained after the Spiders clinched the victory. Maria Turchetto battled for three sets in a back-and-forth match. The sophomore returned from down 2-4 in the third set but ultimately fell 6-2, 4-6, 6-7 (2). Anika Lemus needed a third-set super tiebreak for a 7-6 (5), 3-6, 10-6 triumph.
Liberty falls to Richmond for the first time since 2014, snapping a six-match winning streak against the Spiders.
