
Liberty Defeats William & Mary 4-3 in Mid-Week Matchup

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Liberty (6-8) defeated William & Mary (3-6) 4-3 on the road in its second match of the week on Wednesday afternoon.
Liberty dropped the doubles point losing on courts two and three while the No. 1 doubles match went unfinished. Siwanat Auytayakul and Chase Robinson were leading 6-5 against opponents Nikita Bortnichek and Raz Katz on court one when the point was clinched.
The Flames surged back in the singles round with three straight triumphs to take a 3-1 match lead. Auytayakul swiftly defeated Bortnichek 6-0, 6-2 on court two, while Rodrigo Santiago Arraez bested Albert Hansen 6-1, 6-0 in the No. 3 singles match. Matija Samardzic quickly followed with a 6-2, 6-0 victory on court six.
The Tribe narrowed the lead to 3-2 on court one with Carl Roothman falling 6-4, 6-1. Ernst Gouws secured the match-winning fourth point with a 6-4, 6-0, final score over Alexander Karman in the No. 5 singles match.
The Flames are 8-7 all-time against the Tribe and have won their past eight matches against the in-state rival.
