LEESBURG, Fla. - Liberty defeated both Cleveland State (7-0) and Rutgers (5-2) on Saturday at Sleepy Hollow Softball Complex, day two of THE Spring Games.
The Lady Flames, ranked No. 20 in the Softball America Preseason Top 25, are 4-0 on the season after back-to-back two-win days. Meanwhile, CSU and Rutgers both fall to 1-3.

- Paige Bachman struck out six batters after giving up a leadoff single in the second. She retired 12 straight batters in a stretch spanning from the second through fifth innings.
- The Lady Flames jumped ahead with a four-run second inning, more than enough run support for Bachman.
- Liberty outhit Cleveland State 10-3 for the game, with the Vikings sustaining five errors compared to one for the Lady Flames.
- Bachman (2-0) tossed her fifth career shutout, allowing three hits while striking out seven and walking one.
- Avery Robinson (0-1) drew the loss, allowing seven runs (three earned) on 10 hits, walking two and fanning two.
- JaMaya Byrum batted 2-for-2 with one double and two runs scored, while Brynn McManus went 2-for-4 with two RBI. Savannah Woodard hit 1-for-3 with a double, two RBI and one run scored.
- Liberty leads the all-time series against Cleveland State, 4-2, with the Lady Flames winning each of the last three meetings.
- Bachman has 11 strikeouts and a 0.00 ERA in 10 innings pitched this season. Prior to today, Bachman's last complete-game shutout was a three-hitter at Queens, May 5, 2023.

Turning Point
- Liberty led 3-1 in the bottom of the sixth inning before Rutgers loaded the bases with one out. Elena Escobar got out of the jam with a foulout and strikeout.
- Brooke Roberts' two-run homer gave Liberty a 5-1 lead in the top of the seventh. Rutgers loaded the bases again in the seventh, but was only able to score one run.
- Liberty led 9-5 in hits, while both teams committed one error. The Scarlet Knights left 10 runners on base, while Liberty stranded seven.
- Tyler Oubre (1-0) earned the win, allowing one unearned run on one hit, walking three and striking out two in four innings. Elena Escobar earned the save, yielding one run on four hits, walking two and fanning three in three relief innings.
- Kelsey Hoekstra (0-1) allowed five runs (three earned) in the loss. She gave up nine hits and two walks while striking out four.
- Roberts batted 2-for-3 with a homer, three RBI and one run scored. McManus hit 2-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI and one run scored, while Woodard went 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored. KK Madrey stole her team-leading fourth base of the season.
- At 4-0, Liberty is off to its best start to a season since winning each of its first six games in 2021.
- Liberty leads Rutgers 8-1 in the all-time series, with the Lady Flames winning each of the last eight meetings.
- Woodard, Roberts and McManus both recorded their second multiple-hit game of the season in today's second game.
- Madrey moved into a tie with Jaclyn Amader (2016-19) for eighth in program history with 47 career stolen bases as a Lady Flame.
