LYNCHBURG, Va. - In the first Top 25 matchup in Kamphuis Field in Liberty Softball Stadium History, No. 15 Virginia Tech defeated No. 21 Liberty, 9-0 in five innings on Wednesday.
The Hokies hit three first-inning homers and got a no-hitter from pitcher Emma Lemley.
Virginia Tech, ranked No. 15 in this week's NFCA/GoRout Top 25 Coaches Poll, improves to 13-3 on the season. The Lady Flames, ranked No. 21 in Monday's Softball America Top 25, fall to 12-4, including 4-1 on its current 13-game homestand.

Turning Point
- Virginia Tech burst out of the gates with first-inning homers from Cori McMillan, Jayden Jones and Bre Peck.
- Lemley took it from there. After walking the first batter she faced, Savannah Woodard, the Virginia Tech right-hander retired the final 15 batters in order.
- The Hokies registered nine hits, while the Lady Flames committed three errors.
- Lemley (6-2) tossed her third no-hitter of the season, striking out five and walking one.
- Liberty's Danner Allen (1-1) drew the loss, allowing three runs on three hits in 1/3 of an innings. Paige Bachman allowed six runs (three earned) on six hits, walking one and fanning two in 3 2/3 innings. Tyler Oubre pitched a hitless inning of relief.
- Jones went 2-for-3 with a homer, one RBI and three runs scored, while Bre Peck batted 2-for-3 with a home run, two RBI and two runs scored. Jordan Lynch went 1-for-3 with a double and three RBI.
- Virginia Tech leads the all-time series against Liberty in softball, 43-16. The Hokies have won each of the last seven meetings since Liberty's 5-3, nine-inning win over Virginia Tech on April 28, 2021.
- Lemley is the first pitcher to no-hit Liberty since NiJaree Canady tossed her first career no-hitter for Stanford against the Lady Flames on Feb. 12, 2023.
- Liberty is 6-10 all-time against Top 25 opponents inside of Liberty Softball Stadium. Tonight's matchup was the first game in stadium history where both teams entered the game in the Top 25.
- Allen had not allowed an earned run in her first 16 2/3 career innings pitched before today. She entered the week as one of nine NCAA Division I pitchers with enough innings to qualify (at least one inning per team game), who held a 0.00 ERA.
- Woodard has reached base in each of the last six games.
