Turning Point
- UCF scored four runs during the fourth, taking a 4-1 lead. After the Lady Flames narrowed the gap to 4-2 on a Brynn McManus RBI single in the top of the fifth, the Knights loaded the bases with nobody out in the home half. However, Paige Bachman worked through the jam with a pair of strikeouts and a popout.
- The Lady Flames rallied with one out in the sixth. KK Madrey walked before Alyssa Henault came through with a pinch-hit RBI double. Savannah Woodard then homered for a 5-4 lead.
- UCF threatened in the bottom of the seventh, as the leadoff batter singled and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Paige Doerr's sliding catch and Rachel Craine highlighted the inning as Liberty held on, 5-4.Â
- Liberty outhit UCF 10-8. The Lady Flames committed one error. Meanwhile UCF left 10 runners on base compared to seven stranded for Liberty.
- Bachman (4-0) earned the win, allowing one unearned run on five hits, walking one and fanning five in five innings in relief of starter Elena Escobar.
- UCF reliever Isabella Vega (1-1) drew the loss, yielding three runs on two hits, walking one and striking out two in 1 2/3 innings.
- Woodard batted 2-for-4 with a homer, two RBI and one run scored. Savannah Jessee went 2-for-3 with one RBI, while Rachel Roupe and Alyssa Henault both doubled. KK Madrey stole her team-leading eighth base.
- For UCF, Izzy Mertes and Taylor Kittleman had two hits each.
- At 6-0, Liberty has tied the best start to a season in program history. The Lady Flames also started 6-0 in 1996, 2018 and 2021.
- Liberty picked up its first-ever win over UCF in softball, as the Knights lead the all-time series at 7-1.
- Bachman has 21 strikeouts and a 0.00 ERA in 17 2/3 innings pitched this season.
- Madrey has tied Madison Via (2017-21) for seventh most stolen bases in program history with her 51st steal as a Lady Flame.
- Madrey and Paige Doerr both have hits in all six games so far this season.
- Woodard hit her first home run since March 15, 2023 at Eastern Kentucky.Â
Both Liberty and UCF will compete in the Shriner's Children's Clearwater Invitational, Friday through Sunday at Eddie C. Moore Softball Complex in Clearwater, Fla. The Lady Flames will take on Charlotte, Alabama, Missouri, Wichita State and Auburn at the invitational.
