
Liberty Set to Host TYR '85 Invite, Friday through Sunday

LYNCHBURG, Va. - The Liberty swimming & diving team will host the seventh annual TYR '85 Invite, Friday through Sunday at Liberty Natatorium.
The Lady Flames have competed in a mid-season invitational during this corresponding weekend in every year of program history. This will be the eighth straight year that Liberty has hosted an in-season invitational, and seventh time this event has been sponsored by TYR. This weekend's invitational features six women's swimming & diving teams, including Liberty, Ohio, Campbell, Saint Francis (Pa.), California (Pa.) and UNC Pembroke.
This weekend's invitational will give teams experience in a similar meet format as their respective conference's championship meet. Unlike conference championships, this meet will not feature a predetermined scoring roster limit.
Each full day of the meet will begin with morning prelims at 10 a.m. On Friday and Saturday, finals will start at 6 p.m., while Sunday's finals session is at 5 p.m.

The Lady Flames' next regular-season meet will be Jan. 16-17, as Liberty will compete at UNC Asheville.

Team Notes
- Liberty, James Madison and Marshall joined the American Conference as affiliate members in women's swimming & diving beginning on July 1, 2025.
- In the 2025 American Conference Preseason Poll, Rice was voted first, followed by Liberty in second and FIU in third.
- The Lady Flames are 3-0 against American Conference opponents this season, topping East Carolina 194-155 Oct. 3-4 at Liberty Natatorium. Liberty then posted a 190-163 victory at Tulane, Oct. 10-11. Most recently, Liberty posted a 219-209 win at FIU, Nov. 1. Liberty is 4-0 overall this season.
- Aly Bozzuto won three events (50 breaststroke, 100 breaststroke, 200 breaststroke) at the FIU meet. Liberty got two wins from Natalie Colarossi (100 free, 200 free), Riley Leach (200 fly, 400 IM) and Gwyneth Frick (100 back, 200 back).
- In the Oct. 25 meet at Campbell freshmen Dakota Howard (50 free) and Sadie Huenefeld (100 free) both posted their first career individual-event wins.
- At the Tulane meet, Liberty's Aly Bozzuto (100 breaststroke, 200 breaststroke) and Riley Leach (200 fly, 400 IM) both earned two individual-event victories.
- Bozzuto won three events against ECU (50 free, 100 breaststroke, 200 breaststroke), while the Lady Flames got two victories from Emma Herrera (500 free, 1000 free), Kamryn Cannings (100 free, 200 free) and Gwyneth Frick (100 back, 200 IM).
- Liberty won its seventh straight conference championship, claiming the 2025 Atlantic Sun Swimming & Diving Championships. The team posted 10 top-eight finishes on Saturday night, winning all five events while earning eight medals. For the meet, Liberty earned 40 A Finals, 26 podiums and 13 event wins. The Lady Flames set eight program records, five meet records and five conference records, while earning 10 NCAA B cuts and four NCAA Zone Qualifying scores.
- Head Coach Jake Shellenberger was voted ASUN Women's Swimming Coach of the Year. It was his seventh Coach of the Year honor and fourth in a row. Samantha Pickens was voted ASUN Women's Diving Coach of the Year.
- Kamryn Cannings was named Most Outstanding Swimmer of the Meet, winning the 50 free, 100 free and 100 fly.
- Shannon Icard earned Most Outstanding Diver of the Meet honors, as she won one-meter, three-meter and platform at the ASUN Championships.
- Aly Bozzuto won the conference title in the 100 breaststroke and 200 breaststroke, while finishing second in the 50 freestyle. She was named Most Outstanding Freshman of the Meet.
- Bozzuto and Cannings both represented the Lady Flames in the NCAA Division I Women's Swimming & Diving Championships.
- The Lady Flames were represented by Maddie Freece, Shannon Icard and Chloe LaCount at the NCAA Zone Championships, with Icard making two finals appearances.
- 16th-year Head Coach Jake Shellenberger has led the Lady Flames from the program's inception. He has posted a 139-41 dual-meet record, being named CCSA/ASUN Women's Swimming Coach of the Year seven times (2012, 2014, 2019, 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025).
- A program-record seven Lady Flames received CSCAA Individual Scholar All-America second team honors last season, in Aly Bozzuto, Kamryn Cannings, Malia Francis, Maddie Freece, Shannon Icard, Chloe LaCount and Sydney Stricklin.
- A total of six current Lady Flames have posted conference podium finishes in their career, led by six medals from Kamryn Cannings. Aly Bozzuto (3), Shannon Icard (3), Eden Troxell (3), Malia Francis (2), and Emily Harstad (1) have all podiumed as well.
- Campbell has competed in Liberty's home invitational each year. California (Pa.) will be making its fourth appearance at the TYR '85 Invite. Saint Francis (Pa.) competes in the TYR '85 Invite for the fifth time, while Ohio makes its third appearance, all in a row. UNC Pembroke makes its debut at Liberty Natatorium.
- Navy won the first two invitationals at Liberty (2018, 2019), while Campbell claimed the next four titles (2020-23). Last year, Liberty won its home invitational for the first time.
The Lady Flames' next regular-season meet will be Jan. 16-17, as Liberty will compete at UNC Asheville.
