
Liberty Bounces Back, Edges UC San Diego 3-2

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Liberty knocked UC San Diego from the ranks of the unbeaten, edging the Tritons 3-2 (21-25, 25-21, 25-20, 22-25, 15-10), Saturday at Navy's Wesley A. Brown Field House.
The Lady Flames (3-2) went 2-1 at this weekend's Kristen Dickmann Invitational, with wins over Navy and UC San Diego and a loss to Cornell. The Tritons fall to 4-1 on the season with one match remaining this weekend.

- Liberty outhit UCSD .280-.261 for the match, also leading in kills (62-58), assists (62-53), aces (12-5), digs (46-44) and blocks (10-9).
- Kamryn Bacus, making her first appearance of the season, led Liberty with 16 kills, followed by 14 kills by Kate Gammer and 11 from Elizabeth Helmich. Madison Blane connected on 10 out of 11 attack attempts with no errors (.909), adding five blocks. Charli Crowson dished out a match-high 32 assists, while Erica Lowery collected 14 digs and Amelia Tomlinson led all players with four aces.
- Molly McCluskey scored a match-high 18 kills for the Tritons, while Ava McInnes sent down 13 kills and Jasmine Saran totaled 12 kills and five blocks. Paulina Baillie collected a match-high 19 digs.
- Liberty led the match 2-1 after taking the second and third sets. The Lady Flames led set four 18-14, but UC San Diego responded, outscoring Liberty 11-4 from then on to force a fifth set.
- The Lady Flames took command early in the fifth set, leading 8-4 at the court change. UCSD got to within three points but could get no closer, as Liberty scored a 15-10 set win to clinch the match.
- Liberty is 2-0 all-time against UC San Diego in volleyball. The Lady Flames won both meetings by 3-2 scores.
- This is the first time since Oct. 28 at Sam Houston that Liberty won a match after losing the first set. It was also Liberty's first five-set match of the season.
- Liberty has posted 10 or more blocks in a match three times so far this season. The Lady Flames served up 10 or more aces in two out of three matches this week.
- Today marked the first time since Dec. 3, 2022 against Western Carolina that four Lady Flames scored 10 or more kills in the same match.
- This was the 24th time that Gammer and Bacus have both reached double-figures in kills in the same match.
- Crowson's 32 assists are the most assists by a Liberty freshman since Grace Allread dished out 32 assists, Sept. 25, 2021 against Eastern Kentucky.
