
NC State Holds Off Liberty, 3-1

RALEIGH, N.C. - Liberty extended the match with a gritty 26-24 set-three victory before falling to NC State 3-1 (25-22, 25-15, 24-26, 25-15) on Wednesday at Reynolds Coliseum.
NC State evened its season record at 2-2 by winning its home opener. The Lady Flames fell to 3-3 with the setback, as they have played each of their first six matches away from Lynchburg.

The Lady Flames open their home schedule with a tournament this weekend. Liberty will take on ETSU (1 p.m.) and Virginia (7 p.m.) on Friday before facing West Virginia, Sunday at 1 p.m.

- NC State outhit Liberty .238-.135 for the match, leading in kills (54-40), assists (44-35), aces (6-1) and digs (67-51). Liberty held a 7-6 edge in blocks. The teams combined for 35 service errors.
- Amanda Rice led the Wolfpack with 13 kills, while Ava Brizard scored 12 kills. Courtney Bryant turned in a double-double, totaling 10 kills and a match-high 16 digs. Skye Stokes served up a match-high three aces and collected 15 digs. Sophia Groom registered four blocks, while Naomi Cabello dished out a match-high 22 assists.
- Kate Gammer scored a match-high 14 kills for the Lady Flames, adding nine digs. Elizabeth Helmich sent down nine kills, while Erica Lowery collected 13 digs. Madison Blane posted four blocks, while Charli Morris dished out 20 assists.
- Liberty used a 5-0 run to take an 18-15 lead in set three, as Blane capped the rally with a kill. The Lady Flames still led 23-20 before the Wolfpack rallied to tie it at 24-all. The guests scored the next two points, as a Gammer-Blane block sent the match to a fourth set.
- The host Wolfpack pulled away for a 25-15 set-four victory to clinch the match.
- NC State is now 7-2 all-time against Liberty in volleyball, as the Wolfpack has won each of the last two meetings. Prior to today, the last meeting was a 3-0 sweep over the Lady Flames on Sept. 16, 2011 in Reynolds Coliseum.
- Liberty is 1-3 in sets decided by two points this season, and 1-0 in extended sets.
- Blane passed Ashley Webber (2005-08) into 10th place in program history with 320 career blocks. She is now four blocks shy of ninth place, currently held by Nicole Nice (1989-92).
- Gammer has reached double figures in kills a team-high three times this season, giving her 49 career 10-kill matches.
- Lowery has collected 10 or more digs in each of the last five matches, as she has totaled 47 double-digit dig matches for her career.
