ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Liberty served up a season-high 16 aces, sweeping the host Navy 3-0 (25-17, 25-16, 25-19) to open the 2024 Kristen Dickmann Invitational, Thursday at Wesley A. Brown Field House.
The Lady Flames (2-1) picked up their second win in a row, while the Mids fall to 0-4 on the young season.

- Liberty outhit Navy .244-.025, while the Lady Flames led in kills (33-22), assists (33-22), aces (16-8), digs (31-26) and blocks (7.5-1.0)
- Liberty's Carly O'Brien led all players with five aces, followed by three aces each from Amelia Tomlinson and Madison Blane. Paige Overcash and Kate Gammer tied for the match lead with nine kills apiece, while Erica Lowery collected a match-high 11 digs. Charli Morris dished out a match-high 16 assists, while Blane posted a match-leading five blocks.
- Doris Nelson led Navy with seven kills, while Isa Boyd totaled 14 assists and three aces. Paige Buzzerio served up three aces, while Hannah Hoover collected a team-high nine digs.
- Liberty raced to a 25-17 set-one win, hitting .444 along the way.
- The Lady Flames surged ahead 7-1 in the second set, only to see the Mids battle back to within one point at 15-14. However, the visitors closed the middle set on a 10-2 run and carried that momentum in to the final set.
- Liberty is now 8-16 all-time against Navy in volleyball, but the Lady Flames have won each of the last four meetings. The Lady Flames' last visit to Navy resulted in a 3-2 Liberty win, Aug. 31, 1996.
- Liberty's 16 aces tonight were its most in a single match since serving up 18 aces in a 3-0 sweep of Gardner-Webb, Oct. 23, 2010. The Lady Flames' 16 aces tonight are the second most by the team in any match under the current 25-point rally-scoring format.
- O'Brien is the first Liberty freshman with five aces in a match since Kennedi Sutter on Sept. 11, 2021 against Loyola Marymount.
- Blane recorded her 300th career block. With 301 career blocks, the senior needs 18 more blocks to pass Ashley Webber (2005-08) for 10th in program history in career blocks.
- Erica Lowery posted her second double-digit dig match of the season and 44th for her career.
