
Liberty Rallies for 3-1 Win Over EKU

ATHENS, Ohio - Liberty rallied from a 23-17, set-three deficit, winning 28-26 to take a 2-1 match lead before pulling away for a 3-1 (22-25, 25-17, 28-26, 25-16) win over Eastern Kentucky on Saturday at Ohio's Convocation Center.
Liberty (6-6) went 2-1 during its time at the Green & White Invitational, with wins over Oakland and EKU and a setback at the hands of the host Ohio Bobcats yesterday. EKU (8-4) has gone 1-1 so far this weekend heading into a 7 p.m. matchup with Ohio tonight.

Liberty opens Conference USA play on the road, taking on Louisiana Tech in Ruston, La., Friday and Saturday.

- The Lady Flames outhit the Colonels, .306-.177, Liberty's second match this season hitting .300 or better (also versus Akron). Liberty also led in kills (65-48), assists (52-39), digs (61-54) and blocks. Both teams served up three aces.
- Kate Gammer tied her season high with 19 kills to lead all players. Kamryn Bacus scored 18 kills, while Elizabeth Helmich totaled 12 kills, two aces and eight digs. Erica Lowery collected a match-high 23 digs, while Autumn Flowers posted eight kills (.467) and four blocks. Madison Blane tied for the match high with five blocks. Charli Crowson (26) and Charli Morris (20) combined for 46 assists.
- EKU's Sarah Mitchell contributed 12 kills and 13 digs, while AG Vandagriff scored 11 kills and added five blocks. Emilee Hill totaled six kills, 23 assists and 12 digs, while Josie Schmitendorf collected 15 digs. Carson Ledford hit .400 with nine kills.
- Liberty faced a 23-17 set-three deficit. EKU appeared to win the set, as Cooper Abney's attack was originally called a set-clinching kill off the block, 25-22. However, the call was overturned after a challenge. The Lady Flames cashed in on their second set-point try, winning 28-26 to take a 2-1 match lead. Liberty ended the third set on an 11-3 run.
- Liberty leads Eastern Kentucky 3-1 in the all-time series. The Lady Flames posted a 2-1 record against EKU when both teams were in the Atlantic Sun Conference in 2021 and 2022.
- Gammer has scored 10 or more kills in all four meetings between Liberty and Eastern Kentucky all-time.
- This is the third time this season that both Bacus and Gammer have both posted 15 or more kills in the same match. They also did so against UC San Diego and Virginia.
- Lowery posted her eighth career 20-dig match and first of the season. Her 23 digs are the most by a Lady Flame since Nov. 17, 2022, when she collected 27 digs.
- Set three was Liberty's longest set of the season to date, at 28-26.
- Madison Blane passed Erin McKeown (2000-03) into seventh place all-time at Liberty with 343 career blocks.
- Bacus surpassed the 1,200-career kill mark, at 1,215, with 789 of those coming during the last two-plus years at Liberty.
