
Lady Flames Split Pair of Matches at Home Tournament

LYNCHBURG, Va. - Liberty swept ETSU (25-11, 25-19, 25-16) this afternoon before falling in five sets to Virginia (25-16, 19-25, 25-22, 23-25, 9-15) in the de facto championship match of the Liberty Tournament, Friday at Liberty Arena.
Virginia (8-1) won this weekend's tournament, going 3-0 with wins over Liberty, ETSU and West Virginia. ETSU (5-4) went 1-2 at the tournament, while Liberty (4-4) is 1-1 going into the weekend finale against West Virginia.
Tonight's attendance of 1,174 for the Liberty vs. Virginia match was the second-highest attendance for a volleyball match in Liberty Arena history. The facility volleyball record crowd of 1,436 saw Liberty take on Eastern Kentucky on Nov. 11, 2022.
Liberty vs. ETSU
After a day off tomorrow, the Lady Flames take on West Virginia on Sunday at 1 p.m. to close out this weekend's tournament.
Virginia (8-1) won this weekend's tournament, going 3-0 with wins over Liberty, ETSU and West Virginia. ETSU (5-4) went 1-2 at the tournament, while Liberty (4-4) is 1-1 going into the weekend finale against West Virginia.

Liberty vs. ETSU
- Liberty opened the day with a 3-0 sweep of ETSU. The Lady Flames outhit ETSU .211-.074. The hosts also led in kills (36-18), assists (30-18), aces (15-4) and digs (32-26). The Buccaneers held a 12-4 advantage in blocks.
- Liberty served up seven aces during a 25-11 set-one victory and kept serving tough throughout the match, winning in a sweep.
- Freshman Charli Crowson flirted with a triple-double, totaling 12 assists, 10 digs and a Liberty Arena-record eight aces. Kamryn Bacus scored a match-high 11 kills to go along with three aces, while Erica Lowery collected 10 digs. Kate Gammer served up four aces.
- Amanda Lowe scored a team-high seven kills for ETSU, while Whitley Rammel posted a match-high seven blocks. Reese Rhodes led all players with 17 assists.
- ETSU leads the all-time series in volleyball against Liberty, 6-3. The Lady Flames downed the Buccaneers for the first time since Oct. 15, 2007.
- Liberty tied its season high with 15 aces against ETSU, setting a new Liberty Arena record. Charli Crowson served up a Liberty Arena-record eight aces.
- Crowson's eight aces are the most by a Liberty player in any three-set match in the rally-scoring era (since 2001). Her eight aces are the most by a Lady Flame under the current 25-point scoring system (since 2008).
- Kallie Corbin holds the program rally-scoring single-match record with nine aces, in a four-set match against Navy on Sept. 15, 2006. It was Corbin's freshman year.
- The Lady Flames led Virginia 2-1 and held a 21-18 advantage in set four. However, the Cavaliers surged to the finish, winning the fourth set 25-23. UVA then held the Lady Flames to a .000 hitting percentage in set five, winning 15-9.
- For the match, Liberty outhit Virginia .265-.244. Virginia led in kills (68-58), assists (65-57) and digs (66-58). The Lady Flames won the battle in aces (5-4) and blocks (14-8.5).
- Virginia's Abby Tadder hit .556 with a match-high 18 kills, adding five blocks. Kate Dean scored 13 kills at a .571 pace, while Elayna Duprey sent down 11 kills. Milan Gomillion collected a match-high 20 digs, while Brooklyn Borum corralled 15 digs. Ashley Le dished out a match-high 29 assists and added 13 digs.
- Kate Gammer recorded a double-double with 17 kills and 12 digs, while Kamryn Bacus scored 16 kills. Elizabeth Helmich hit .350 with 10 kills. Charli Morris totaled 25 assists, six kills and six blocks. Madison Blane posted eight blocks, while Amelia Tomlinson collected 11 digs and Autumn Flowers registered five blocks. Charlie Crowson contributed 21 assists and three aces.
- Virginia leads Liberty 32-5 in the all-time series, snapping the Lady Flames' two-match series winning streak. The Cavaliers posted their first win over Liberty since Aug. 26, 2017.
- Bacus reached double figures in kills in both matches today. She has recorded 66 career double-digit kill matches and 41 during her time as a Lady Flame.
- Blane has registered 330 career blocks. She passed Nicole Nice (1989-92) into ninth place all-time at Liberty in career blocks today.
- Gammer recorded her 26th career double-double and second of the season.
- Lowery has totaled 48 double-digit dig matches for her career, including six this season.
- Liberty is now 1-1 in five-set matches this season.
After a day off tomorrow, the Lady Flames take on West Virginia on Sunday at 1 p.m. to close out this weekend's tournament.
