Engle, Littleton Receive Conference USA Player of the Week Recognition

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Liberty's Halle Engle and Lauren Littleton have been selected as the Conference USA Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday. Engle received Liberty's and her first CUSA Offensive Player of the Week award and Littleton earned her first and Liberty's second CUSA Defensive Player of the Week award this season.
The awards are Liberty's third and fourth total awards this season following Kayla Magee earning the CUSA Defensive Player of the Week honor (Aug. 20) and Peyton Huber being named the CUSA Goalkeeper of the Week on Sept. 3. All four of Liberty's recipients received the recognition for the first time in their careers.
Liberty leads the conference with four total CUSA Player of the Week awards. New Mexico State and FIU have each received three total awards.
The Lady Flames, led by two Engle scores, topped No. 21 Virginia Tech 2-1 on Thursday night. The forward provided the opening goal off a corner set piece and the game-winning tally five minutes into the second half. The win was Liberty's first-ever victory over a ranked opponent.
Engle is one of 22 athletes in the country with three game-winning goals this season. Engle is a leader on the Lady Flames and CUSA in multiple categories including goals (6, 0.75 per game), points (13, 1.63 per game) and shots per game (3.63, 1.88 on goal).
Littleton helped lead the charge for Liberty's back end last week. The sophomore contributed to forcing the equalizing own goal to provide Liberty a 1-1 draw result on Sunday at West Virginia.
The center back guides a Liberty back line and defense that ranks second in CUSA with a 0.750 goals-against average. The Lady Flames yield only 6.4 shots per game to their counterparts and have allowed six total goals this season.
Liberty (7-0-1) prepares for its final non-conference games on the road at George Mason (2-3-2) on Thursday at 7 p.m. and against UNCG (1-4-1) on Sunday at 1 p.m. Both contests will be streamed on ESPN+.
