
Liberty Tops Akron 3-1 For 1st Win of Season

SAN JUAN, P.R. – Liberty won the final two sets to pull away for a 3-1 (25-20, 21-25, 25-19, 25-17) victory over Akron on Saturday at Mario Morales Coliseum.
The Lady Flames (1-1) evened their season record, as first-year head coach Nolan Albrecht earned his first win at the helm. Akron (1-1) also split a pair of matches at the Puerto Rico Invitational this weekend.

The Lady Flames next compete in the Kristen Dickmann Invitational, hosted by Navy, Thursday through Saturday. While in Annapolis, Liberty will take on Navy, Cornell and UC San Diego.

- Liberty outhit Akron .313-.181 for the match, while leading in kills (60-50), assists (51-47), digs (70-63) and blocks (10-7). The Zips held a 9-4 advantage in aces.
- Liberty's Kate Gammer led all players with 19 kills, adding 11 digs for the double-double. Freshman Paige Overcash, making her first career start, hit .371 with a career-high 15 kills. Erica Lowery collected a match-high 18 digs, while Charli Morris totaled 23 assists and five blocks. Autumn Flowers scored nine kills at a .562 pace, while Madison Blane posted a match-high six blocks. Freshmen Carly O'Brien and Amelia Tomlinson collected 12 digs each, while classmate Charli Crowson dished out 21 assists.
- Lauren Baker led Akron with 14 kills, hitting .367, while Emanouela Christodoulou scored 12 kills. Eliska Vytiskova dished out 22 assists, while Vanessa Del Real totaled three aces and 17 digs. Martina Villani \collected 12 digs, while Melia Tore posted five blocks.
- After the teams traded the first two sets, Liberty dominated both of the final two sets. The Lady Flames outhit the Zips .367-.167 in a 25-19 set-three win before hitting .469 during a 25-17 set-four victory.
- Today was the first win as Liberty head coach for Nolan Albrecht, who was men's volleyball head coach at Belmont Abbey from 2017 through 2021.
- Liberty is now 4-12 all-time against MAC opponents at time of meeting, as today was the first meeting between the Lady Flames and Akron in volleyball.
- Prior to tonight, the last time that two Lady Flames scored 15 or more kills in the same match was Oct. 28, 2023 at Sam Houston, when Kamryn Bacus scored 20 kills and Kate Gammer posted 18 kills.
- Today's match marked Gammer's 47th career double-digit kill match and Overcash's first career 10-kill match. Gammer also recorded her 25th career double-double.
- Overcash's 15 kills were the most by a Liberty true freshman since Kate Gammer's 18 kills against Stetson on Nov. 7, 2021.
- Liberty hit .313 tonight, its best attack percentage since hitting .376 against Louisiana Tech on Nov. 2, 2023.
