Liberty Slotted at No. 11 in Preseason NFHCA Poll

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Liberty field hockey squad is ranked 11th in the nation entering the 2024 campaign. The National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) unveiled its Penn Monto/NFHCA Division I Preseason National Coaches Poll on Tuesday morning.
Liberty enter the fall season having won two of the last three BIG EAST Championship titles (fall 2021, 2022) and three straight BIG EAST regular season crowns. The Lady Flames are the highest ranked squad in the BIG EAST. Defending BIG EAST champion Old Dominion is ranked No. 18.
Liberty ended the 2023 campaign as the No. 7-ranked team in the country and has begun the year as a nationally-ranked squad for an eighth straight season in which there was a preseason poll. There was no preseason poll during the spring 2021 season.
Northwestern, the 2023 national runner-up, earned the top spot in this year's preseason poll, followed by defending national champion No. 2 North Carolina, No. 3 Virginia, No. 4 Maryland and No. 5 Duke. This fall, Liberty will face five teams who appear in the 2024 preseason rankings, including: No. 2 North Carolina (Sept. 22, home), No. 3 Virginia (Sept. 8, home), No. 5 Duke (Sept. 15, home) No. 18 Old Dominion (Sept. 20, away) and No. 20 Albany (Sept. 29, away).
The Lady Flames will begin their season against Indiana on Saturday at noon. That game will be played at Kent State's Murphy-Mellis Field.
