Liberty Head Volleyball Coach Trevor Johnson has resigned from his position to pursue other opportunities. A national search for the program's ninth head coach will begin immediately.
Johnson completed his sixth season at Liberty in the fall where the Lady Flames posted a 15-14 overall record and an 8-8 mark during the team's first season as members of Conference USA. He finished his time as Liberty's head coach with an 89-75 record, including 54-38 conference record.
"We are grateful to Coach Johnson for all that he has done for the Liberty volleyball program and for the University over the past six seasons," said Vice President and Director of Athletics Ian McCaw. "We wish Trevor and his family the very best as they move on to their next opportunity."
During his time with the Lady Flames, Johnson guided Liberty to two appearances in the National Invitational Volleyball Championship (2019 and 2022), including a run to the NIVC Elite Eight in 2019. He helped guide the Lady Flames to a pair of 20-win seasons.
In 2022, Liberty posted a 23-9 record, winning its first ASUN regular-season title by going 14-2 in conference play. Liberty reached a program-record-best 70 in the final RPI before the postseason.
The Lady Flames made their first appearance in a conference final since 2012 and were selected to host the first and second rounds of the NIVC. Liberty tied a program record with 14 conference wins and took a 12-match winning streak into the ASUN final. The Lady Flames snapped FGCU's 21-match home winning streak.
Johnson was named 2022 ASUN Coach of the Year, while Delaney Dilfer was voted ASUN Setter of the Year and Liberty tied a program record with four all-conference players. The Lady Flames entered the 2022 postseason as the only NCAA Division I volleyball team with four players who scored 300 or more kills.
