Liberty junior Elena Escobar and freshman Kaylan Yoder both earned Conference USA honors following stellar performances in the pitching circle last week.
Escobar was named Conference USA Pitcher of the Week, while Yoder received Conference USA Freshman of the Week honors.
Escobar is the third Lady Flame to be named CUSA Pitcher of the Week this season, joining Yoder (April 1) and Katie Love (March 18). The last team before this year to have three different Conference USA Pitcher of the Week honorees in the same season was Tulsa in 2009.
This is the fourth time in program history in which Liberty has had three conference pitcher of the week honorees in the same year. The other three instances were in 1999 (Amy Csider, Lesli Inge, Katie Phillips), 2017 (Julia DiMartino, Elizabeth Engler, Kenzie Friesen) and 2018 (Chase Cassady, Julia DiMartino, Elizabeth Engler).
Yoder was previously named CUSA Freshman of the Week on Feb. 26. She and New Mexico State's Desirae Spearman are the only two players to be named both CUSA Pitcher of the Week and CUSA Freshman of the Week this season.
Escobar posted a 2-0 record and 0.58 ERA last week, walking two and striking out 17 in 12 innings of work. She posted a .079 opponents' batting average.
On Saturday, she tied her career high with 10 strikeouts while allowing one run on two hits in a 5-1 win over Middle Tennessee. She pitched efficiently, with five 1-2-3 innings.
During Sunday's 4-3, nine-inning victory, Escobar entered in the fifth inning with Liberty trailing 3-2. She pitched five innings of one-hit relief, fanning seven and walking two to earn the win.
Yoder continued her dominance in conference play, going 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA, allowing one unearned run on three hits during the week.
For the sixth week in a row, Yoder pitched the series opener. She struck out seven, walked five and allowed three hits and one run, unearned, in six innings before giving way to Paige Bachman.
The freshman is 5-1 with a 0.17 ERA in Conference USA openers this season and has posted a 1.24 conference-only ERA.
Next up, the Lady Flames (26-16, 15-3 CUSA) host North Carolina on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
