No. 5 Notre Dame Uses Big First Quarter to Down Liberty 12-5

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Lady Flames lacrosse team could not overcome a 6-0 first quarter deficit and fell to No. 5 Notre Dame 12-5 at home on Thursday.
Liberty (4-10) drops its third consecutive contest with its loss to No. 5 Notre Dame (12-2). The Fighting Irish were led by a five-point performance (1 g, 4 a) from Jackie Wolak and a game-high three scores by Kasey Chroma.
The Lady Flames began to rally back after trailing 6-0 followig the first 15 minutes of play. Liberty outscored Notre Dame 5-4 between the second and third quarters. Jordan Sheive led the Lady Flames with two goals in the contest.
Despite the loss, Liberty goalkeeper Mara Tellers enjoyed a career day in the crease. The junior made a career-best 16 saves on Thursday, the most saves in a single game for Liberty since Kristen Masullo recorded 19 saves against Central Connecticut State on March 15, 2011. The junior's 16 saves ranks No. 5 in team history for most saves in a single game.
Liberty attacker Cami Merkel tallied career goal No. 100 in her 51st career game.
The Lady Flames drop to 2-7 at home this season. Liberty has just one home game remaining, hosting Jacksonville on April 27. The Lady Flames are still seeking their first victory over Notre Dame, now winless in six meetings.
