LYNCHBURG, Va. - Liberty clinched a series victory over Louisiana Tech with a 3-0 shutout in game two of a three-game set, Friday at Kamphuis Field at Liberty Softball Stadium.
Liberty and Louisiana Tech entered this series tied atop the Conference USA standings. The Lady Flames (19-14, 8-2) have shut out the Bulldogs in each of the first two games this week and will attempt the sweep tomorrow.

Turning Point
- In the third inning, the Lady Flames got all of the scoring they would need, loading the bases with two outs. Louisiana Tech starter Brook Melnychuk issued bases-loaded walks to both Brynn McManus and KK Madrey, putting Liberty ahead 2-0.
- Liberty added an insurance run in the fifth, as Mary Claire Wilson led off with a triple before being driven in by Sierra Kersten's single.
- For the second day in a row, Louisiana Tech did not get a runner past second base.
- Liberty outhit Louisiana Tech 6-3 for the game. Both teams committed one error. The Lady Flames left eight runners on base, while the Bulldogs stranded six.
- Katie Love (5-3) pitched a three-hit shutout, her second shutout of the year. She struck out six and walked one.
- Melnychuk (7-5) drew the loss, allowing two runs on three hits, walking four and fanning four in 2 2/3 innings pitched. Mattison Buster yielded one run on three hits, walking one and striking out three in 3 1/3 innings.
- Raigan Barrett went 2-for-3 with a double and one run scored for the Lady Flames, while KK Madrey batted 1-for-1 with two walks and one RBI. Rachel Roupe, Mary Claire Wilson and Sierra Kersten had one hit apiece.
- Liberty leads Louisiana Tech 4-0 in the all-time softball series. The Lady Flames defeated the Bulldogs in both of their previous meetings in 2016.
- Prior to this week, Louisiana Tech had only been shut out once this season, March 3 against LSU.
- Liberty has won the first two games in all four of its Conference USA series. The Lady Flames are 1-2 in game three of conference series so far this year.
- This is the second time that Kaylan Yoder and Katie Love have both tossed shutouts to start a CUSA series. On March 15 at home against Jax State, Yoder pitched a four-hitter in the series opener. Love followed with a no-hitter the next day.
- This is the 11th time in program history (all under current Head Coach Dot Richardson) and second time this season that Liberty has pitched shutouts in each of the first two games of a three-game conference series.
- Madrey extended her hitting streak to seven games, while Roupe has reached base in each of Liberty's last 11 games.
- Wilson moved into sole possession of eighth place in program history with eight career triples, while also moving into a tied for 17th in career runs scored (108) with Ashley Willams (2005-08) and former teammate Madison Via (2017-21).
- Roupe inched closer to the 100 career runs scored mark, scoring her 98th career run.
- Liberty is now 11-2 at home this season, with more than half (6-of-11) of those victories coming via shutout. Six out of Liberty's seven shutouts this year have come at Liberty Softball Stadium.
