
Liberty Bounces Back, Edges Coastal Carolina 2-1

LEESBURG, Fla. - Liberty got back on the winning track, scoring twice in the fourth inning to earn a 2-1 win over Coastal Carolina, Thursday at Sleepy Hollow Softball Complex.
With the win, Liberty snaps a five-game winless streak while improving to 2-5 on the season. Meanwhile, the Chanticleers sustained their first setback of the season at 4-1.

The Lady Flames face two Big Ten teams tomorrow, taking on Illinois at 2 p.m. before meeting Iowa at 5 p.m.

Turning Point
- Liberty rallied to take a 2-1 lead, scoring two runs in the bottom of the fourth. With one out, Sierra Kersten singled and Hailey Deter doubled. Rachel Craine then drove in pinch runner Aubry Norris with a game-tying single. KK Madrey's RBI ground out gave Liberty the lead.
- Elena Escobar rolled through the middle innings before giving up back-to-back two-out singles to Delaney Keith and Riley Zana. Kaylan Yoder entered the circle in relief of Escobar. Liberty catcher Sierra Kersten caught Ally Wojciechowksi trying to steal third, ending the game.
- Both teams registered six hits and one error. Coastal Carolina left seven runners on base, while Liberty stranded five.
- Escobar (2-0) earned the win, allowing one run on six hits, walking two and striking out seven in 6 2/3 innings. Yoder nailed down the save, pitching to one batter.
- Raelee Brabham (3-1) drew the loss, yielding two runs on six hits, striking out four. Relief pitcher Nicolette Picone tossed one inning, striking out two.
- Sierra Kersten went 2-for-3 with a double, while Hailey Deter (1-for-3) doubled and Rachel Craine (1-for-3) drove in one run.
- For Coastal Carolina, Keith batted 2-for-4 with one RBI while Zana went 2-for-4 as well.
- Coastal Carolina is now 41-34 all-time against Liberty in softball. Today was the first meeting since May 12, 2016, when Coastal eliminated the Lady Flames from the 2016 Big South Softball Championship.
- Roupe extended her hitting streak to 10 games, dating to last season.
- Deter hit a double for the second game in a row.
- Sophomore Aubry Norris scored her first career run, in the fourth inning.
- Escobar lowered her ERA to 0.89 on the season, averaging just over one strikeout per inning.
