LYNCHBURG, Va. – No. 18-ranked Liberty featured four 2024 All-BIG EAST honorees, it was announced on Wednesday morning by the league office prior to this week's BIG EAST Field Hockey Championship.
Fifth-year senior Reagan Underwood has tabbed to the All-BIG EAST first team. Lou Combrinck, Tuti Dell Anna and Dara Semmartin were each recognized as All-BIG EAST second team honorees.
Underwood earns first team honors for a second straight year. Combrinck, Dell Anna and Semmartin all receive their first all-conference recognitions. In nine years in the conference, the Lady Flames have had 44 total all-conference recipients (29 first team, 15 second team).
No. 18 Liberty (10-7, 4-3 BIG EAST) is the No. 4 seed for this weekend's 2024 BIG EAST Field Hockey Championship, held at Providence's Lennon Family Field in Providence, R.I. The Lady Flames will face the top seed and regular season champion, No. 10 Connecticut (15-3, 6-1 BIG EAST), Friday afternoon in the semifinal round at 1 p.m.
Reagan Underwood (All-BIG EAST first team)
This is the second straight year Underwood has been tabbed to the All-BIG EAST first team. This year's BIG EAST Preseason Midfielder of the Year, Underwood has started all 17 games for Liberty while tallying one goal, four assists, six points and one defensive save. The Sinking Spring, Pa. native had two assists and two points in seven BIG EAST games. In Liberty's 6-0 win over Georgetown last Friday to clinch a spot in the BIG EAST Tournament, Underwood started at center back and made a pivotal defensive save in the first quarter.
Underwood's one goal this season came in a 5-0 win over William & Mary, Sept. 13 in Lynchburg. With her 17 starts this season, she is the program record holder for career starts with 96.
Lou Combrinck (All-BIG EAST second team)
Combrinck's first All-BIG EAST honor comes on the heels of a breakout junior campaign. In 17 games this year, all starts, Combrinck has totaled eight goals, five assists and 21 points, all of which rank second most on the team. The Hillcrest, South Africa native totaled five goals (tied for most on team), two assists and 12 points in seven BIG EAST regular season matches. She earned two BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week awards this season (Sept. 17 and Oct. 22).
Combrinck notched her first career three-goal game in a 9-0 home triumph over Quinnipiac, Oct. 18. The third-year midfielder scored Liberty's only goal in a 1-0 win over No. 4 Duke, Sept. 15 in Lynchburg. Combrinck notched a career-best two assists to go along with a goal and four points in a victory over William & Mary, Sept. 13.
Tuti Dell Anna (All-BIG EAST second team)
Dell Anna, a forward, is Liberty's top goal scorer this season with 10 goals in 17 games (all starts). She has one assist and a team-best 21 points as well. In seven BIG EAST games, the senior tallied two goals and four points. Dell Anna was tabbed to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll one time this year (Oct. 8).
Dell Anna, a native of Córdoba, Argentina, scored two goals on two occasions this year. The first time came in a 5-0 win over Appalachian State on Oct. 6, and the other occurrence was last week (Oct. 29) in the road regular season finale at James Madison. Dell Anna's first career 10-goal season has her ranked 36th nationally and fifth in the BIG EAST in goals per game (0.59).
Dara Semmartin (All-BIG EAST second team)
Semmartin, a freshman from Buenos Aires, Argentina, is the Lady Flames' top distributor this season with 11 assists in 17 games (all starts). She was named the BIG EAST Freshman of the Week in the final BIG EAST weekly awards this week and also garnered BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll recognition two weeks ago (Oct. 22). Semmartin currently ranks No. 13 in the country and third in the BIG EAST in assists per game (0.65). Her 11 assists are tied for the most in a single season in program history, and she is the first freshman in school history with at least 11 assists in a year.
Semmartin also has one goal and 13 points (fifth on team). The defender had one goal, three assists and five points in seven BIG EAST regular season games. Semmartin has been at her in the second half of the season, tallying nine assists in the last nine games. She has a trio of two-assist games, coming against Appalachian State (Oct. 6), Quinnipiac (Oct. 18) and James Madison (Oct. 29). Semmartin and the Liberty defense have recorded six shutouts in 2024, three of which have come in BIG EAST play. The Lady Flames rank third in the conference and 15th nationally in shutouts per game (0.35).
