
Lady Flames Claim 5-Set Win Over Gamecocks

LYNCHBURG, Va. - Liberty remained unbeaten in Conference USA play, outlasting Jacksonville State in five sets (25-21, 12-25, 25-22, 26-28, 15-12), Saturday at Liberty Arena.
The Lady Flames (10-6) earned their fifth straight victory, while the Gamecocks (7-10, 0-4) dropped their sixth match in a row.

The Lady Flames play four away matches next week, beginning on Tuesday and Wednesday at FIU. Liberty will then head to Georgia to take on Kennesaw State, Saturday and Sunday.

- Liberty outhit Jax State .257-.232 for the match. The Lady Flames also led in kills (61-58) and blocks (15-5). The Gamecocks held the advantage in assists (55-54), aces (11-3) and digs (63-60).
- Kamryn Bacus scored a match-high 19 kills for the Lady Flames, while Kate Gammer turned in a double-double with 16 kills and 10 digs. Helmich recorded 10 kills and three blocks. Ellie Garrett dished out a match-high 48 assists to go along with five kills, two aces and 11 digs, while Caty Havekost sent down 11 kills. Brooklyn Schiffli collected a match-high 19 digs, while Luci Wilkinson totaled 10 digs.
- Helmich gave Liberty a 13-11 set-five lead with her 10th kill of the match. Williams then scored her 29th kill, making it 13-12. On the next point, Williams swung 1-on-1 against Helmich, attempting to tie the set. Helmich posted a solo block on Williams' attempt, and then Gammer sealed the victory with a kill.
- Liberty leads Jax State 4-2 in the all-time series. The Lady Flames are 4-0 against the Gamecocks since both teams joined CUSA last year.
- Liberty's 4-0 start to Conference USA play is its best since opening the 2019 ASUN schedule with four straight wins.
